Jing Shan, a researcher from Technische Universität Dresden, has been awarded the Second Prize in the Rail Mode category at the TRA VISIONS 2024 Young Researcher Competition in Dublin, recognizing his significant contributions to sustainable transport.

At this week's ceremony, Jing Shan was recognised for his innovative research in intercontinental rail freight, in particular his work on the "Supply Chain Oriented Integrated Tactical Planning Method (ITPM) for International Rail Freight Transport". This method is designed to optimise the use of resources and meet diverse service requirements within the supply chain, laying the groundwork for future improvements in rail transport efficiency.

The award, presented by Magda Kopczyńska, Director General of the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), and Giorgio Travaini, Executive Director of the European Rail Joint Undertaking, at the biennial Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2024, underlines the event's theme of promoting sustainable and inclusive mobility. Shan's recognition underlines the growing importance of developing environmentally sustainable transport options within the global supply chain.

The TRA VISIONS 2024 YOUNG RESEARCHER COMPETITION is open to young researchers from universities and research institutes at Bachelor's and higher (Master's and PhD) level in all scientific fields related to transport, sustainability, mobility, energy, engineering and related fields.
