Often compared to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, this iconic line designed by Gustave Eiffel will once again connect rural departments and improve access to Lozère and Cantal.

After extensive renovations, the famous railway line that crosses the Garabit Viaduct in the Occitanie region in France is set to reopen, improving travel options in this scenic part of France. Often compared to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the Garabit Viaduct is a remarkable structure designed by Gustave Eiffel and stands as an engineering icon.

After 8 months of work and an investment of 43 million euros, this important section between Loubaresse and Andelat is nearing completion. The Aubrac line will once again cross the legendary Garabit viaduct. Interrupted for many years in its northern section, it has only been possible to use certain sections, which has negatively impacted mobility and therefore on access to Lozère and Cantal. This unique longitudinal railway, which provides a structure for the Massif Central, has finally been modernized.

A veritable backbone, this line crosses the whole of the Massif Central and is an essential link in the mobility of this mountainous region, passing through several rural departments. This line is the last Intercités daytime train, with no reservation required, through the heart of the Massif Central, which is unlikely to see a high-speed train.

The organizers hope that the reopening will not only boost tourism but also raise local and international interest in the preservation of railway heritage. Efforts are underway to secure UNESCO World Heritage status for the viaduct, to establish it as an example of sustainable mobility in line with environmental goals, and to increase passenger traffic.
