The shipment replaces heavy truck transport for this flow and cut emissions by more than 9,500 kg of CO₂ equivalent.

Sata Shipbuilding has received its first steel shipment by rail in more than 10 years. A 16-wagon train carrying steel from SSAB’s Raahe mill arrived at the shipyard on 25 June, with VR Logistiikka handling the rail delivery.

The rail delivery follows investment in the shipyard’s logistics infrastructure and forms part of Sata Shipbuilding’s work to change material flows to the shipyard.

Railway infrastructure at the site has been refurbished, while crane equipment has also been modernised to handle rail-based deliveries.

Sata Shipbuilding said the project involved its own specialists and external partners. The company linked the return of rail deliveries to more efficient inbound logistics for steel used at the shipyard.
