Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has placed an order for 30 additional Mireo trains from Siemens Mobility, expanding its fleet of this train type to 100 units. This follows a previous order of 70 Mireo trains placed under the framework agreement between ÖBB and Siemens Mobility.
The Mireo trains are designed for regional and commuter transport, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The units will operate in Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic, featuring the European Train Control System (ETCS) for interoperability across different networks.
The newly ordered trains will introduce wider cars compared to previous Mireo models, utilizing a single-car train concept. The interior layout includes air conditioning, onboard WLAN, barrier-free entrances, and dedicated spaces for bicycles, wheelchairs, baby carriages, and winter sports equipment. Passenger areas are also equipped with power sockets and seating arrangements designed for regional travel.
With this expansion, ÖBB continues its fleet modernization strategy, increasing capacity for regional transport. The delivery schedule aligns with the operator’s long-term planning for rolling stock deployment across its network.
