The current transport is part of an ongoing delivery programme by Stadler Rail for GB Railfreight, following the first units intensively tested on British rail network over the past months.
Built at Stadler’s Valencia site, the Class 99 locomotives are based on the EuroDual platform and combine electric and diesel traction. The fleet is being delivered under a leasing agreement with Beacon Rail, with GB Railfreight as the operator. Totally 30 locomotives have been ordered.
The Class 99 has been authorised for operation in the UK since late October 2025. Locomotives are equipped for 25 kV AC overhead lines and feature a Stage V-compliant diesel engine for non-electrified sections. The six-axle Co’Co’ configuration allows traction loads up to 500 kN.
Deliveries are being staggered, and the movement of 99003 and 99004 follows the earlier arrival of the first two units in the UK earlier in 2025. The locomotives are expected to enter service in 2026, gradually replacing older diesel types across GB Railfreight’s network.
