A freight train carrying European-manufactured goods—including items from Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia—departed from the Warsaw terminal of PKP CARGO CONNECT.
The train marks the inaugural eastbound shipment along this New Silk Road corridor, with consignments ranging from custom-made furniture to ski accessories, footwear, and playground equipment. Any items suitable for container transport and compliant with current sanctions are eligible. PKP CARGO CONNECT plans two further departures in the coming weeks.
PKP CARGO CONNECT’s leadership noted that ten years ago, the company joined forces with China’s ZIH group to facilitate container transport in the opposite direction—east to west. The first train from China arrived at this same Warsaw terminal in 2016. The current operation represents a reversal of that route, sending European goods toward China.
On the Chinese side, the train was coordinated with Henan Zhongyu International Port Group (“Zhongyu Port Group”), a state‑established enterprise under the Henan provincial government. Its stated mission is to develop a logistics hub that links domestic and international markets across eastern, central, and western regions, supporting the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative. The group operates freight‑train services in Henan and manages the Zhengzhou International Inland Port. Aiming to handle an annual volume of 10,000 trains and 10 million tonnes of cargo, Zhongyu Port Group has built a logistics network with 25 direct destinations and eight rail border crossings. To date, the company has dispatched around 15,000 China–Europe freight services from Henan, claiming top national standing in both volume and comprehensive logistics capacity.
